Legal Position at Palmetto Health

Job Summary:
The Staff Attorney works under the direction of the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel to provide legal support to Palmetto Health.  All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Palmetto Health’s values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity and teamwork.
Education: A J.D. degree from an accredited school of law
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house legal department, Healthcare experience preferred. 3-5 years is preferred.
Number of Employees Supervised: None
Licensure, Registry, or Certifications Required: Licensed to practice law in state of SC or must obtain License within 1 year of employment.
Special Training: Experience negotiating day to day and complex contracts preferred.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts legal research as necessary to perform job duties or as requested by the General Counsel or Associate General Counsel. 
  • Drafts and reviews contract terms and conditions or other legal documents as requested by Palmetto Health departments with specific emphasis on contractual relationships with physicians. 
  • Remains current on all developments in relevant local, state and federal rules and regulations applicable to Palmetto Health’s business activities. 
  • Healthcare experience preferred with knowledge and experience of the Stark Law and regulatory issues, physician contracts, subpoenas, contracts, etc... 
  • Coordinate with outside counsel as instructed by the General Counsel or Associate General Counsel. 
  • Prepares business legal reports and correspondence as required. 
  • Collaborate with in-house counsel in regards to the development, implementation and maintenance of Palmetto Health policies and procedures as required by state and federal law and private and public accreditation bodies.
